“As a kid, I wasn’t very academic and didn’t enjoy studying. I had no idea what I wanted to do in terms of career and eventually got referred to work here as an intern mechanic. I learned to fix golf carts, private cars and even double decker buses. I worked hard and took a lot of additional qualifications to hone my skills. I’m not sure who would want to be a golf cart mechanic in the future - it’s almost impossible to hire apprentices these days. Young people find this line of work to be too tough, too dirty and too demanding. They would rather take a job as a security guard than to get their hands dirty. We did have an intern once. But on the third day into the job, his mum gave us a call to tell us that her son is quitting - it was too hard!” 

“I grew up in North Point. When I first arrived in DB, I found it so peaceful and quiet - like a little oasis. I’ve gotten used to this pace of life and I don’t think I can ever live in the middle of the city again. Every time I’m on the island, I get very stressed and irritated with all the noise, the crowds and general hustle and bustle. It’s just so much more relaxed and chilled out in DB. My favourite spot is that little hidden beach round the corner - I have many fond memories of collecting clams and going for dips there!”

「細個嗰陣，我讀書唔叻，亦唔係咁鍾意讀書。我冇咩話想做咩職業，後尾有人介紹我嚟呢度做見習技工。我一路學識點樣修理高爾夫球車、私家車，甚至連雙層巴士都識維修。嗰時好俾心機做啊，考好多牌去鑽研技藝。我唔知第時有咩人會想做高爾夫球車維修啊，而家幾乎係冇乜可能請到學徒。後生嘅覺得呢行太辛苦，邋遢又高要求。佢哋寧願搵份工做保安，起碼唔駛吓吓落手落腳。我哋都試過請一個見習學徒嘅，但係到開工第三日，佢阿媽就打嚟話佢個仔唔做喇，太辛苦！」

「我喺北角長大嘅。第一次嚟愉景灣嗰時，覺得呢度好平靜好舒服，好似個小綠洲咁。我慣咗呢種生活節奏㗎喇，唔覺得我可以住返入市區。每次我喺香港島嗰邊，我就會覺得好緊張，頂唔住啲車聲、人群同埋嗰種匆匆忙忙嘅感覺。愉景灣呢度放鬆好多，慢好多。我最鍾意嘅地方係轉角嗰個沙灘仔，喺嗰度有好多美好回憶，掘蜆啦，喺嗰度游水咁！」
